Benicio del Toro and Mathieu Amalric star in Jimmy P

Academy Award winner Benicio del Toro’s last big screen appearance was in Oliver Stone’s Savages in 2012.  Since then he has been busy, having completed four films which are currently in post production with four others in the pipeline.  His latest film Jimmy P.: Psychotherapy of a Plains Indian was just pick up for distribution by IFC.

Benicio portrayal of a troubled native American vet in Jimmy P was lauded by critics when it premiered this past May at the Cannes Film Festival.  The critics were less enthusiastic about the film itself, which received mixed reviews.   Mathieu Amalric plays opposite Benicio as his idiosyncratic therapist.  Jimmy P  made its North American debut at the New York Film Festival earlier this month.

Produced by Worldview Entertainment, the film is based on the book Psychotherapy of a Plains Indian by Georges Devereux about his relationship and multidisciplinary study of Jimmy Picard of a Blackfoot Indian, who fought in World War II and suffered from psychological distress.

Pascal Cauchetuex and Jennifer Roth produced while Worldview’s Christopher Woodrow and Molly Conners executive produced with Patrick Milling Smith and Ben Limberg. IFC is expected to release the film in early 2014.

The deal was negotiated by Arianna Bocco, SVP of Acquisitions, on behalf of IFC Films, and CAA on behalf of Worldview.
