The 2018 NALIP Media Summit, presented by HBO, was another successful event as attendees gained valuable knowledge from the various panels, speakers, workshops and more.

2018 Media Summit started out strong with: Thursday Kick Off Rise Up! Intersectional Stories panel bringing women empowerment to audiences, the Official Selection Kickoff Screenings and the Summit Launch Mixer presented by Sundance Institute and Film L.A.
Friday brought thought provoking conversations from back-to-back panels presented by Public Media, which culminated with a Public Media networking mixer to elusive insights from STARZ, and Diverse Women in media Initiative Highlights! The Keynote Luncheon included a never-before-seen episode of HBO’s Vice, along with special closing remarks from Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti. Events kicked into high gear on Saturday with the We Run This Show Keynote with top Latinx Showrunners and the Latino Media Awards, while Sunday, Latino Lens Coffee Stop brought the eventful weekend to a close. Throughout the week, the NALIP Summit’s accomplishments celebrated and honored at the Latino Media Awards– where Directors, Actors, Producers, and all around artists are recognized for their priceless contributions to the industry. This year the spotlight shone on:
Diego Luna
Gustavo Santaolalla
Gustavo Santaolalla — Lifetime Achievement Award Known as “One of the 25 Most influential Hispanics in America” and “50 Smartest People in Hollywood,” is an award-winning composer and all around artist.
Diego Luna — Outstanding Achievement in Film Award With his breakout starring role in the award-winning film, Y Tu Mama Tambien, and recent role in blockbuster film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Diego has been breaking walls in Hollywood for years. Luna inspires young Latinxs fans to never be ashamed of the person they are or change for anyone.
Isabella Moner
Isabela Moner — Lupe Ontiveros Award This year’s NALIP’s Lupe Ontiveros Awardee went to the talented singer, actress, dancer and songwriter, Isabela Moner, who recently starred in Michael Bay’s Transformers: The Last Knight and stars in the new Benicio Del Toro’s film, Sicario: Day of the Soldado.
Victoria Alonso
Victoria Alonso — Tech Arts Innovator Award She is the Executive Vice President of Physical Production for Marvel Studios, who uses her superstar role to oversee post-production and visual effects for the studio slate. For her contributions in a field rarely showcasing Latinx female talent, Victoria rightfully was honored with the Tech Awarrts Innovator Award.
Mishel Prada
Mishel Prada — Outstanding Achievement in Television Award She is one of the stars in the original STARZ series, Vida, a drama created by Tanya Saracho. Mishel’s role has brought recognition and representation to Latinx members of the LGBTQ community, while bringing awareness to the mainstream media of the dangers of gentrification and loss of community.
PBS — Lisa Quiroz Media Advancement Award For nearly 50 years, PBS has been a fixture in the lives of Americans of all backgrounds, providing exceptional content rooted in education. Like no other media outlet today, PBS provides room for diverse experiences and voices that build understanding and making our nation stronger. This award is in memory of Lisa Garcia Quiroz, who was Time Warner’s Chief Diversity Officer, who created a lasting legacy of inclusion on film and television. She passed away March 18, 2018, after losing her battle to cancer.
Chris Abrego
Cris Abrego — Industry Pioneer Award He is the CEO of Endemic Shine North American and Chairman, Endemic Shine Americas, in November 2016. Abrego oversees both the North American and Latin American divisions of Endemol Shine Group, the global independent content creator, producer and distributor.
ARRAY — We Are Inclusion Award ARRAY, was founded by Ava DuVernay, and is an independent film distribution and resource collective comprised of arts advocacy organizations, maverick volunteers and rebel member donors worldwide. Their work is dedicated to the amplification of independent films by people of color and women filmmakers globally.
Dulce Candy
Dulce Candy — Digital Trailblazer Award From an Army Veteran to a Youtube Vlogger, Dulce Candy received the Digital Trailblazer Award for inspiring millions of young women around the world to find their passion and achieve their dreams.

The 2018 NALIP Media Summit’s industry insights were all the buzz among attendees. From writing to digital content to working at one of the top media outlets in the country, this year’s variety of panels covered every sector of film, television and entertainment.
