@The Laugh Factory Monday January 18th @8PM

Time flies when you’re having fun! Kiki Melendez’ Hot Tamales Live,  one of the longest running and most critically acclaimed award-winning comedy variety shows celebrates their 15th anniversary on Monday, January 18th at the Laugh Factory at 8pm.

In 2000, this troupe of women proved to Hollywood and the nation that women are just as funny as men, that diversity is the best way to go in Hollywood. Their message has been heard loud and clear: Unity Through Laughter. “In our own way, we made it hip for shows to include all races. We were one of the the first, to showcase ALL RACES in ONE SHOW!” said creator and producer, Melendez.

Although, there were a few other troupes that paved the way like “Hot and Spicy Mamitas” Hot Tamales Live made it about ALL women of ALL races, because every woman needed a break in comedy! Throughout the years Hot Tamales Live showcased talent such as: as Thea Vidal, Loni Love, Monique Marvez, Nadine Rajabi, and Eva Longoria, just to name just a few of a long list of talent. Many of today’s great comedic talent were showcased at the Hot Tamales Live!

This show was conceived by Melendez and co-produced by Eva Longoria in 2000. “I remember the day they came to me at my Latin Heat offices in Burbank and demanded I support them! Who could say no, to those two Latina spitfires? They were focused, passionate and committed to making this a one of a kind Comedy Variety show and that they did,” says Bel Hernandez, Editor-in-Chief of Latin Heat.  “We were so determined, we went to everyone for help. I remember our friend David Damien Figueroa actually sponsoring our first show out of his own pocket!” Melendez recalled

The show has toured all over theNew York, Connecticut, Arizona, San Antonio, Houston, Dallas Vegas, Fresno and all over the nation. It was also produced for Showtime Networks by Scott Montoya and Neil Marshall and became one of the longest running specials for this network, three years on the air.

The Hot Tamales Live, early on was the only showcase that gave a group of diverse women comedians a chance to show their talent. That is why it is so celebrated and so well received within the community, says Melendez.  The Laugh Factory will be hosting the high-profile night of celebration of an amazing 15 years of great performances.

It’s no coincidence that a show that has always put diversity first will be performing on Martin Luther King’s Birthday. “We stand united in supporting diversity in keeping with everything this great leader stood for,” says producer, Sandra Avila.

Comedy superstars such as Paul Rodriguez and Anjelah Johnson will also be stopping to join the celebration. A town hall type interview will be included with American Crime and McFarland USA actor Johnny Ortiz.

The diverse 15th year anniversary stellar lineup includes Mad TV’s Debra Wilson, Jill Michele Melean, plus Nadine Rajabi, Helen Hong, and of course Kiki Melendez.

Hot Tamales Live is now going beyond the stage. It is currently in development and has been optioned as a TV Series. More reason to come out and support this very special show, you then you can say you were at the 15 year anniversary. This is a celebration #womenincomedy #funnywomen #HotTamalesLive
