“Homebound” and Tugg Make For a Good Combination

Homebound.laScreening.590

For indie filmmaker Fanny Veliz finding Tugg, is a web-platform that lets filmmakers bring their movies  to local theater, was the deal that sealed her distribution dilemma.  With increasing demand to screen Homebound across the nation, the film has already released in El Paso, Tx and in Fresno, CA to an overwhelming response. Next up is the theatrical release in Veliz’s home town of Los Angeles.  The screening which will be in Burbank on April 13th  sold out in a matter of days, and such is proving to be the pattern in various cities it is schedule to release.  (See list of screenings below).

Most screenings end with a Q&A with the filmmaker and/or cast.  For the L.A. screening Veliz, who not only wrote and produced Homebound, but also has a role in the film will be participating in the Q&A.  Also participating will be  Enrique Castillo (Weeds, Blood In Blood Out) who plays the patriarch in the film and Julia Vera ( Raising Hope, The Protector) who plays the grandmother in the film.

The screening at the Alamo Drafthouse in San Antonio, TX was a sell out as the word of mouth, mostly on Facebook has spread Homebound about the story of Richard Lynn (Jeremiah Ocanas), a successful young man who returns to his small hometown, El Campo, Texas. He has to help his father Gilberto (Castillo) who’s ill with cancer, run the family business, a dilapidated bar.  A story that diverts from the usual Hollywood film of stereotypical depictions of Latinos.
