Hollywood Latinas Jessica Alba & Eva Longoria Head to DNC

A total of 9 women to speak at a national convention… a record!

As the Democratic National Convention approaches ( September 3rd ) in Charlotte, NC, a pair of A-listers, actresses Jessica Alba and Eva Longoria, are getting ready for their convention key roles.

Alba and her husband, producer Cash Warren are co-hosting one of the convention’s most important fundraising event—a joint event that raises cash for all the pro-Democratic super PAC’s and Priorities USA. Set for the convention’s closing night, the “Super-O-Rama” event holds high hopes that it will help expand the Democrats efforts with the expenses dealing with independents.  This is the one area where the Democrats are lagging behind the GOP.

Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria will be one of the nine women to address the delegates from the podium.  While no one is citing any records, most observers think that’s a record number of female speakers at a national convention… good signs the glass ceiling is breaking through the “good old boys club?” And, the Democrats will be able to claim this victory on behalf of all women.

Longoria is also one of the co-chairs of the president’s reelection and is one of President Barack Obama’s most enthusiastic and vocal advocates during this election. She has positioned herself as the key leader of his reelection among Latinos.

“Ever since I was a little kid,” says Longoria in a pre-convention video, “my parents made sure I knew I could do anything if I worked hard. My sister Lisa, who faced obstacles growing up with special needs, taught me to be courageous and compassionate. This is how I try to live my life day to day and this is what I see in everything President Obama does. Whether he’s fighting for affordable healthcare and access to education, or supporting small businesses in the Hispanic community, over the last three years he’s worked to reform our immigration system, to give everyone a fair shot at the American Dream.”

Other women addressing the DNC includes:

Cuban-American journalist and Spanish language television host Christina Saralequi, and a pair of the party’s reigning political celebrities—California Atty. Gen. Kamala Harris and Massachusetts senatorial hopeful Elizabeth Warren. Both are big favorites of the Hollywood Democrats.
