Disclaimer: Obviously I am the proud mother of Karina Noelle and Supporter of their Kickstarter campaign (because it’s very good!)
The Los Angeles County High School for the Arts alumni are scattered around Hollywood like little shining examples of the fine talent being turned out by this performing high school of the West Coast. The list includes such notables as Josh Groban, Corbin Bleu (High School Musical), Jenna Elfman, Josefina Lopez (writer Real Women Have Curves). Members of the LACHSA Class of 2006 are also making their mark. Devon Armstrong, artistic director of the Downtown Repertory Theatre Company, which was founded in 2009, and member Karina Noelle are looking to soon join this impressive list. Both star in the Downtown Repertory Theatre Company’s latest artistic endeavor a comedic web series entitled Empty Space. But they need your help. They are in the final days of a Kickstarter campaign and invite all theater lovers, LASCHA Alumni and comedy lovers to take a look and dig into your pockets for as little at $10 or up to $1,000 to help with the post production.
The nine-episode web comedy explores and glorifies the world of diehard thespians, those hardcore beasts of the theater who soldier on against the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune because, after all, the show must go on. The Downtown Repertory Theater, is comprised of both long-time veterans of the stage and recent graduates of acting conservatories across the country for the webseries they are using their own theater experiences as a backdrop. What ensues is a comedic inside look at the world of passionate thespians.

Armstrong takes that same mission of the company’s a diverse range of characters barring any pre conceived notions of stereotyping and cast the webseries as multicultural as his theater company to create a love-letter to live theater. The webseries has been shot and is currently in post-production. Funds are needed to complete the color correction visual effects and sound mix, and to market and distribute the film. In the meantime, the online release campaign is already in negotiation. I encourage mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles, friends of LASCHA Alumni and all to help support the next muliti-cultural group of artist and support!
