With a great showing of support from both industry insiders and the Latino community, Cristela premiered as the number one TV show in its time slot and the #2 comedy debut of the fall season with 6.5 million viewers.  With an average Nielsen rating of 1.10 ( 5.5 million viewers) among the 18-49 age demographic, after six episodes the show has yet get a full season order of the “back 9” for a full 22 episodes season.

Halfway through the 13 episode order, the good news is Cristela is still on the air. Cristela took a hit after a very unfunny and strange episode entitled “Hall-Oats-Ween” which aired on October 31, the ratings dropped 8.33% with 4.9 million viewers.

However, with the November 7th episode “Super Fan” Cristela was back on track with the writing and spark that made the pilot episode a winner. The bump in the ratings put the show back up to over 5 million viewers.  We hope the trend continues, because although the format is retro, the talented Alonzo needs more time to show off her “wicked comedic timing and a surprisingly natural understanding of multicam acting” as George Morvis stated on soundonsight.org.

This ground breaking show which puts U.S. Latinos back on the small screen, with the story of a law student struggling to get that law degree while living with her beautiful sister, grumpy brother-in-law, a niece and nephew, and a suffering mother, has comedienne Cristela Alonzo not only leading the cast as the star, but guiding the writing as writer and co-executive producer.

However, Cristela cannot afford another “Hall-Oats-Ween” kind of episode if the ratings are to continue to go up. The episodes work when Alonzo is playing herself, and even dressed up for Halloween as either Hall or Oats (not a big fan here so don’t know which one it was) it’s a miss.

Because whatever happens with the show, we know Cristela is going go be around for a long time.
