Oprah Visits Gloria and Family Airing Sunday, August 4th
Los Angeles – At the end of the ’80s, Gloria Estefan was topping the charts and selling out concerts around the world. But on a snowy night in March of 1990, her life as she knew it came to a crashing halt when her tour bus was hit by a semitruck on a Pennsylvania highway, leaving Gloria with a broken back and the possibility of never performing again. Oprah Winfrey sits down with seven-time Grammy Award winner Gloria Estefan, the most successful Latin crossover artist of all time, on an all-new episode of Oprah’s Next Chapter, airing this Sunday, August 4 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network.
Oprah joins the Estefan’s for a traditional Cuban-style lunch at their home in Vero Beach, Florida, and discusses Gloria’s upbringing as a Cuban exile, her iconic career and how she got the world listening to Latin music. They also talk about developing some of music’s biggest stars including Ricky Martin, Jennifer Lopez, Shakira and Marc Anthony and the bus crash in the 1990s that almost stopped her from ever performing again. Gloria is joined by Emilio Estefan, her husband of nearly 35 years and a 19-time Grammy Award winning musician and producer; 18-year-old daughter Emily Estefan; son Nayib Estefan, his wife Lara and their one-year-old son Sasha, the Estefan’s first grandchild; and Lili Estefan, the Estefan’s niece and a television host on Univision.
