Los Angeles, CA – Composer and music producer Germaine Franco has been making beautiful music for film and television for some of Hollywood’s top films including Ice Age: Continental Drift; The Bourne Ultimatum, Happy Feet, and Rio among so many. Adding to her list of credits Franco recently composed and produced the steamy Latin soundtrack for the release of the feature film Margarita, which will have an industry screening on July 14th at 12:00 PM at the Harmony Gold (7655 Sunset Blvd., Hollywood, CA).
“I am grateful to be part of this project,” said Franco, who is one of the few leading Latina composer/orchestrators working in Hollywood today. “Working with Margarita’s co-directors Dominique Cardona (Finn’s Girl) and Laurie Colbert (Finn’s Girl) was a great experience,” Franco continues. “They are both very savvy about music, as well as wonderful directors. They created a moving story that inspired me. I had fun with the Latin grooves, but also developed several themes that are woven throughout the film. Veteran music supervisors Peter Afterman (Juno, The Girl Next Door, The Patriot), and Alison Litton (Juno, Act of Valor) guided me along the way, helping me to fine tune my cues to fit the drama. Also my collaboration with Federico Ramos, Uruguayan guitarist and composer (Joan Sebastian, Vicente Fernández, Jenni Rivera) was very satisfying.
Margarita follows an illegal Mexican nanny who is fired by her cash-strapped employers, which sets in motion a chain of events that leaves her torn between loyalties and the law. The film’s stars include Nicola Correia-Damude, Claire Lautier, Patrick McKenna, Christine Horne, Maya Ritter, and Marco Grazzini.
Fresh off recently completing work as an orchestrator, song arranger, and assistant to composer John Powell for the score to the film Ice Age: Continental Drift, Franco is jazzed now be doing the promotion for Margarita. Last week she performed the song Real In Rio with Siedah Garrett at ASCAP’s Film and Television Awards.
Margarita, which was produced by Rechna Varma and co-written by Margaret Webb (author of the best selling book From Apples to Oysters) and Laurie Colbert, recently won the Audience Awards for Best Feature at the Women’s International Film Festival, France 2012 and at the Inside Out Film Festival Toronto 2012. The film was partially funded by Telefilm Canada.
