George Lopez will be returning to the world of sitcoms on Thursday, March 6th at 9PM on FX when his all-new comedy series FX show Saint George premieres.
Hard to believe that it has been almost seven years since we last saw George Lopez in his self-titled groundbreaking sitcom. Although he has stayed very visible with his late night show Lopez Tonight and various comedy specials as well as lending his voice to Beverly Hills Chihuahua franchise and appearing in films like Valentines Day, he is back in the medium that made him a household name.
Sticking to a familiar topic, family, Saint George is a half-hour, multi-camera ensemble comedy that follows the chaotic life of George Lopez (George Lopez), a recently divorced working-class Mexican-American turned successful entrepreneur caught between two cultures. He struggles to balance the parenting demands of his All-American Anglo ex-wife, played by Jenn Lyon (Justified, Army Wives), and the cultural expectations of his overbearing Mexican-American mother, played by Olga Merediz (Orange is the New Black). As George attempts to relate to his 11-year-old son, Harper (Kadan Gibson), his life is further complicated by his fun-loving but freeloading uncle Tio, Danny Trejo (Machete Kills, Breaking Bad) and cousin Junior who is played by David Zayas (Dexter). As a wealthy businessman, George also gives back by teaching history to a multi-cultural classroom at a night school in downtown Los Angeles, where he’s supervised by tough and sexy Assistant Principal Concepcion played by Diana Maria Riva. Ultimately, Saint George is a celebration of a multi-generational family that humorously wrestles with cultural differences.
In the first episode, which premieres on March 6th at 9pm George decides to go back into the dating world and discovers he’s terrible at it.
The mother in Saint George (Olga Merediz) has the same evil streak as the mother in George Lopez, played by Belita Moreno as demonstrated here in this promo video Ay, Mama!: http://youtu.be/w-zRkzVGJb8
Saint George is produced by Lionsgate/Debmar Mercury for the FX Network under a 10/90 deal where 10-episodes are ordered and if a pre-set ratings markers are met, then automatically another 90 episodes will be ordered. For more info on Saint George CLICK HERE
