Chavarria joins stellar cast that includes Demian Bichir, Eva Longoria & Theo Rossi
If you are a fan of the hit Hulu series East Los High you know about Gabriel Chavarria’s has star quality, and that is just what landed him the lead role of Universal Pictures’ untitled film about the lowriding car culture. He joins Oscar nominated actor Demian Bichir who plays his father.
Chavarria plays Danny, one of Bichir’s sons in a story set against the backdrop of the lowriding car competition in East Los Angeles. Danny’s gangbanging brother and their father (Bichir) are both lowrider enthusiast and competing in the annual Supershow competition. Danny is caught in the middle.
This will be Chavarria’s first starring film role. In 1007 he had a small role in Hillary Swank’s Freedom Writers and then in 2011, he had another small role in Chris Weitz’s A Better Life, which coincidently, also starred Demain Bichir playing dad to another young Latino Jose Julian (Spare Parts).

However, Chavarria’s breakout role as Jacob Aguilar in Hulu’s East Los High has garnered him a fan base worldwide. Audiences first caught a glance Chavarria’s in the summer of 2013 in East Los High the English-language show drama about a high school in East L.A. It quickly became a hit, especially among television’s most coveted audience: Latinos 18-34, becoming one of the Hulu’s top 10 shows, drawing in one million unique monthly visitors.
Film is slated to begin shooting this spring under the direction of Ricardo de Montreuil with Imagine’s Brian Grazer and Blumhouse’s Jason Blum producing. Eva Longoria, Theo Rossi (Sons of Anarchy) and actress Nicola Peltz (Transformers) all star in the film as well.
Chavarria is repped by Mike Baldridge at Momentum Talent and Literary Agency and Nelson Management.
