2nd Lead Role a Year for Chavarria!
This is turning out to be quite a year for Gabriel Chavarria (East Los High) who just a few weeks ago wrapped his first starring role in Universal’s Low Riders, where her starred along side Demian Bichir and Eva Longoria. On Monday of this week, it was announced that this rising star has landed his 2nd lead role in a studio film, he will be playing one of the two human leads in 20th Century Fox’s War of the Planet of the Apes.
Chavarria will travel to Vancouver to begin shooting in October under the direction of Matt Reeves. Chavarria is repped by Paradigm.
Luna’s Latest Venture is all About Branding
In the midst of all Diego Luna has on his plate (with 3 films in development and currently filming Rouge One: The Star War Story), last week it was announced that he has partnered with Pablo Cruz (already a partner of his production company Canana with Gael Garcia Bernal) and ad industry veteran Eric Bonniot (A Band Apart) to launch a multi-platform production studio specializing in branded content under the name of Gloria. They have enlisted some of Mexico’s top commercial talents. Rodrigo Valdés and Rogelio Sikander of The Maestros, writer/director Jonas Cuaron (Gravity), Mario Munoz (Bajo La Sal) and Fernando Frias to join them.
Gloria will be producing branded material for both the English and Spanish speaking markets helping they brands to help them tell their story. They are currently working on a webseries for one of Mexico’s largest department store.
Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna whose teaming as actors in Y Tu Mama Tambien” has lead to various business and on camera collaborations, including their film production company Canana which they claimed in 2012 will “focus on the financing and worldwide sales of Latin American Movies.”
Diego and Bernal continue their their mission Canana, which has produced two film and a TV series in the U.S. and is currently developing the comedy Chicuarotes to be directed by Bernal and a drama entitled Rama which has award-winning director Lucrecia Martel (The Headless Woman) attached. TV projects in development are Mr. Pig and Salt and Fire.
