Eugenio Derbez’s Voice Tapped For Warner Bros.’ ‘Speedy Gonzales’

Los Angeles, CA -Mexican comedian, writer and producer Eugenio Derbez will voice “The Fastest mouse In All Mexico” in the Warner Bros.’s tentatively animated film called Speedy.

“In Mexico we grew up watching Speedy Gonzales. He was like a superhero to us, or maybe more like a revolutionary like Pancho Villa,” Derbez said.  “I’m really excited to be bringing this character to the big screen.” Derbez told Deadline.

Derbez, who recently received his star at the Hollywood Walk of Fame also said that he is the perfect match for the Looney Tunes character. “And besides being Mexican,  my full name is Eugenio Derbez Gonzalez and I have big ears. The casting couldn’t be better.”

The character created by Friz Freleng and Hawley Pratt made its official debut in 1955 and still remains as one of the most popular characters in Latin America. Then, Mel Blanc voiced Speedy Gonzales.  Writer Hank Nelken has been tapped to write the story of the speedy rodent.

In 2010, actor and comedian George Lopez had been attached to voice  the animated character.
