Eugenio Derbez In “Miracles From Heaven” His First Major Studio Film Role

Los Angeles, CA – Eugenio Derbez is Mexico’s most well known comedic star. Here in the U.S. he is mostly known as the star/writer/director of the 2013 Mexican comedy-drama Instructions Not Included, which became the highest-grossing Spanish-language film to open in North America.  That is about to change as he makes his co-starring debut in his first major U.S. studio film, Sony Pictures’ Miracles From Heaven, which opens wide on March 16, 2016 via TriStar Pictures.

Derbez finds himself co-starring along side Jennifer Garner, Martin Hendersen and Queen Latifah in Miracles From Heaven which is based on the incredible true story of the Beam family.  When Christy (Jennifer Garner) discovers her 10-year-old daughter Anna (Kylie Rogers) has a rare, incurable disease, she becomes a ferocious advocate for her daughter’s healing as she searches for a solution.  After Anna has a freak accident, an extraordinary miracle unfolds in the wake of her dramatic rescue that leaves medical specialists mystified, her family restored and their community inspired.

Derbez plays a renowned U.S.-based Mexican pediatric gastroenterologist, who eases his young patients’ hospital experience by playing games with them. Derbez’s character is inspired by Boston Children’s Hospital specialist Dr. Samuel Nurko.


Directed by Mexican director Patricia Riggen (Under the Same Moon, The 33), Miracles From Heaven reunites Riggen and Derbez, who starred in Riggen’s U.S. breakthrough film, Under the Same Moon, which grossed $12.6 million in 2008.
