Eric Garcia’s “Cassandra French’s Finishing School For Boys” Pilot Finds Home at MTV

By Elia Esparza

MTV is so smitten with American writer/author/executive producer Eric Garcia that it has handed him a pilot pickup to Cassandra French’s Finishing School For Boys, a drama based on Garcia’s book of the same title. The pilot is co-executive produced by Krysten Ritter (no relation to John Ritter), who also stars in the leading role. Cassandra French’s… is a dramedy being described in the vine of the quirky 1988 Heathers.

The TV adaptation centers on Cassie French, a 22-year old overachiever who gets her dream job as a lawyer for a Hollywood studio yet she can’t find a guy to date who is mature enough for a serious relationship.

After her latest dating disaster, a fed up Cassie locks a guy up in her basement in order to train him to become the perfect gentleman.

Garcia is building a successful track record with his humorous novels that adapt into films like Matchstick Men (directed by Ridley Scott, starring Nicolas Cage) and Anonymous Rex a series, which was adapted in 2004 for the SciFi Channel. Garcia is also a screenwriter (with Garrett Lerner) of the 2010 film Repo Men, based on Garcia’s novel The Repossession Mambo.

Garcia, repped by WME and IPG, is writing Wheel of Time for Universal and The Prize of Peril for Sony. In addition, USA has also bought a project by the screenwriter/novelist.
