Way before social media, the story of Elian Gonzalez had the whole world talking about one incident. Elian was rescued from the Floriday Straits only to enter another traumatic situation. He became a bargaining pawn in the ongoing inauspicious U.S/Cuban strained relations. The documentary includes news archives, and many interviews of persons involve and personal testimony. It documents the custody battle that ensued between Elian’s Cuban father and his Miami-based relatives, who believed Elian was better off in the U.S.
The controversial “rescue” on Thanksgiving Day 1999, shocked millions and angered many as they were critical of how it was handled and putting the life of young Elian in danger
