Los Angeles, CA — ¡GAYTINO! is coming to LACMA on September 17m 2017.
¡GAYTINO! is a remarkable life journey from 1950s East L.A. to New York’s Great White Way in the ’60s and ’70s and back to Hollywood. Dan Guerrero and Carlos Almaraz, lifelong friends in Los Angeles, moved together to New York in the 1960s and then found themselves back in Los Angeles as Almaraz’s career began to take hold. Guerrero’s autobiographical play with music is driven by their lifelong friendship, as well as reminiscences of Dan’s father, Chicano music legend Lalo Guerrero.
The 90-minute performance travels through decades of Mexican-American history and the gay experience from a unique and personal perspective. Offered in conjunction with the special exhibition Playing with Fire: Paintings by Carlos Almaraz.
