Golden Globes Never Disappoint and Always Entertaining
Beverly Hills — If there is one thing you can count on at the Golden Globes is a fun time and a few surprises. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosting encore did not reach the heights of last year but funny enough. There were some obvious teleprompter mishaps, speechless winners taking up precious time, a few un-bleeped words that got away, and drinking on stage. But no matter what, the invited guests and celebrities had a great time, so much so that at times they drowned out the presenters, leaving the audience wanting the cameras to film the audience and watch that show.
As for the winners, there was not a one-project sweep; rather the Hollywood Foreign Press spread the wealth among a very strong list of contenders this year.
Best motion picture drama went to 12 Years a Slave while best comedy or musical motion picture went to American Hustle. But it was Alfonso Cuaron who walked away with the Best Director award for his film Gravity.
American Hustle also took home two other Golden Globes one for best supporting actress, Jennifer Lawrence with Amy Adams taking home the best actress award, which many thought would have gone to Meryl Streep for her powerful performance Osage County.
The best actor category was surely a hard decision with this year’s list of powerful performances by Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave); Idris Elba (Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom); Tom Hanks (Captain Phillips) and Robert Redford for All Is Lost. Matthew McConaughey was the winner for his transformative performance in Dallas Buyers Club. Jared Leto took the supporting actor award for the same film.
On the TV end freshman TV series Brooklyn Nine Nine took home the best TV comedy/musical with SNL alum Adam Samburg taking home the best actor for his role in the series.
Golden Globe host Amy Poehler got real, setting her hosting persona aside, in a genuine acceptance speech for her win as best actress in a comedy.
Latinos Nominees
This year saw more of the usual representation of Latinos at the Golden Globes, with one difference, this year Alfonso Cuaron takes home one of the top big prizes, best director for film Gravity. In his acceptance speech he gave praise to Sandra Bullock and George Clooney and in Spanish, his mother.
Also nominated, but who did not win were Sofia Vergara with her fourth Golden Globe nomination for best supporting actress in a TV series, Modern Family, which was also nominated for TV series.
Guatemala born Oscar Isaccs was nominated for his starring role in Inside Llewyn Davis, which was directed by the Coen Brothers. Isaacs played an unsuccessful folk singer, singing all the songs in the film himself.
Songwriting team Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez were nominated in the best song category for Let it Go in the Disney film Frozen
Latinos at the Globes Representing
Stephanie Beatriz and Melissa Fumero were ecstatic when they show Brooklyn Nine Nine won the best comedy TV series award.
Aubrey Plaza was seen cheering her cast mate Amy Poehler as she accepted her Golden Globe.
Eugenio Derbez (Instructions not Included) was all over the telecast as he was film sitting in the audience and applauding all the winners.
Also at the Golden Globes, HOLA! LA host Dyana Ortelli, not seen on camera but definitely making a fashion statement at the Globes as she does every year.
