With the cast in place, the production got underway on the Disney Channel Original Movie Christmas Again, a heartwarming comedy about the magic of Christmas and creating new Christmas traditions. Christmas Again is a holiday story about a blended Latino family.
It’s Christmas and Rowena “Ro” (Scarlett Estevez), is not having a merry time. Her parents are divorcing and she just wants her life back. All Ro wants for Christmas is for her mom played by Alexis Carra (Fosse/Verdon)) and dad (Daniel Sunjata) to get back together. She wants her dad’s “new” girlfriend, played by Beth Lacke (High School Musical: The Musical: The Series) and her son out of the picture, and their family traditions to remain the same.
After a disappointing celebration with her family, including sister Gabriela “Gabby” (Ashlyn Lopez), Abuela Sofia (Priscilla Lopez), and Abuelo Hector (Tony Amendola), she makes a wish to a mall Santa (Gary Anthony Williams) for a “do-over,” and unexpectedly finds herself reliving Christmas day over and over … and over again. Now, in order to break the strange magical loop, Ro must learn to love her modern blended family as it is, as well as the true meaning of Christmas.
Estevez has been in show business since she booked a commercial at the age of three. She went on to shoot her first feature film And Then There Was You, starring Garcelle Beauvais. She also co-starred in the pilot Redeeming Dave and co-starred on the Nickelodeon Web series Junior Eye. She was a supporting lead in the films Daddy’s Home and Daddy’s Home 2 playing the daughter of Mark Wahlberg. She is currently a series regular as Trixie Espinoza on Fox’s Lucifer.
Carra (of Spanish, Cuban and Argentinian descent) got her start in the 2014 as a series regular in the now forgotten ABC series Mixology. Since then she guest starred on Grey’s Anatomy, Castle, The Mentalist, and Bones. A trained ballet dancer since the age of two, she has performed on Broadway and still keeps he dance training at work as a choreographer for film and TV projects.
The movie is filming in Chicago with Andy Fickman (Race to Witch Mountain) directing. He is also executive producing with long-time producing partner Betsy Sullenger, reuniting the successful team behind the Disney Channel hit series Liv & Maddie. Christmas Again was written by Doan La (Black Friday).
