Councilman Gilbert Cedillo & Filmmaker Richard Montoya
Los Angeles, CA — Chicano filmmaker, and writer & director of Water & Power Richard Montoya sends message to Cesar Chavez director, Diego Luna – a message of support, solidarity and love from the East Side of Los Angeles. Montoya makes a large and genuine gesture as he returns to his roots as a Culture Clash founder for some good old-fashioned street theater. The sort of theater that joined Cesar Chavez in the farm fields of the San Joaquin Valley: El Teatro Campesino of which Montoya is an alumnus.
Montoya turned to his friend, City Council member, Gilbert Cedillo – co-author of the Dream Act and driver’s license bills – to see if they could send Mr. Luna a fitting symbol of support from L.A. Latinos as they have loyally supported the life work of Cesar Chavez – UFW Founder and subject of Luna’s latest film.
The plan…to hang the largest farm worker flag from the upper floors of City Hall.
The public is invited to join Montoya, Council member Gilbert Cedillo and Diego Luna (who has been invited) to come together on Friday, March 28th from 12:30pm – 1:00pm to take part in the flag raising ceremony. The event well take place at City Hall – West side on Spring Street (across from Grand Park, between Temple & 1st Streets)
Montoya is hoping the action will inspire people to go to the theaters and support Cesar Chavez which opens in theaters on Friday, March 28. He and the entire cast & crew of Water & Power, including the film’s executive producer, Edward James Olmos, stand in solidarity with this extraordinary film and urge audiences to support these important stories of Latino Cinema. This is a rare moment in Hollywood history.
