ALMA Awards® air Friday October 10th – Pasadena Civic Auditorium
Los Angeles, Ca – Charo, Hollywood’s irresistible music icon, will be honored with the Ricardo Montalbán Award for Lifetime Achievement at the 2014 NCLR ALMA (American Latino Media Arts) Awards®, it was announced by Janet Murguía, NCLR President and CEO. The show airs LIVE on Friday, October 10th 2014, 10PM/ET and 7PM/PT on MSNBC. The pre-show begins at 6 PM and will be live-streamed on Telemundo.com & www.almaawards.com
The 2014 ALMA Awards® are presented by the National Council of La Raza (NCLR), the largest national Latino civil rights and advocacy organization in the United States. Returning as hosts are executive producer Eva Longoria and actor and television personality Mario Lopez. The show is produced by the NCLR in association with Big Vida Entertainment.
“I am delighted to receive this wonderful honor and I want to thank Janet Murguía and the NCLR,” says Charo. When I arrived in the U.S. in the 70’s, few people were familiar with Latin music and I’m proud of my contribution in paving the way for Latin music and Latin performers in America.”
Charo, born in Spain is an American actress, comedienne, composer and virtuoso guitarist is best known for her flamboyant stage presence, her provocative wardrobe, and her trademark phrase “cuchi-cuchi.” She is being recognized for her exceptional career, her support of the arts, and for being a noble humanitarian, animal rights activist and for her unyielding support to help empower Latinas in all areas of their lives.
Charo joins a notable roster of past ALMA Lifetime Achievement Award recipients: Rita Moreno, Gloria Estefan, Emilio Estefan, Henry Darrow, Bill Melendez and Tony Plana, among others.
