Casting Call: USC Short Film “Marisol”

Casting a  Short Thesis Film for the University of Southern California

Genre: Drama

Submission Deadline: January 20th

Synopsis: When encroaching land developers threaten to seize her family’s farm, a young Mexican girl must embark on a journey to bring water back to the land.

Characters:

Marisol (female, hispanic, 8-14). After her parents left at a young age, Marisol learned to grow up faster than most children. An inventor at heart, she uses her artistic abilities to create incredible creations within her own home. She has a magical sense of the world and never sacrifices her femininity or her strength.

Pepe (male, hispanic, 8-14). The firstborn male in his family, Pepe grew up knowing he would one day be the head of the family farm, but his bumbling antics make his father question his dedication. Pepe has a heart of gold and would do whatever it takes to help his friend — even if it means getting his boots a little dirty.

Javier/Alma (either gender, hispanic, 50-85). Marisol’s grandparent. Stern yet loving man, Javier/Alma has a practical and almost pessimistic world view, but is taken by their granddaughter’s constant hope and drive. They’re also getting too old to take care of themselves, let alone Marisol and the ranch, and must make a difficult decision when developers offer to take it all off their hands.
