CALL FOR ENTRIES: Festival Internacional de Cine Michoacan “Cine Sin Cines”

SUBMISSION DEADLINE:  July 31, 2016

Award-winning actress Elpidia Carrillo, who made her U.S. film acting debut in films like the Border opposite Jack Nicholson, Salvador which was directed by Oliver Stone, and the only woman in a cast of men in Predator, decided to bring the best of films to her beloved birthplace of Michoacan, Mexico. Last year she founded the Festival de Cine Internacional Michoacan. The festival was held in the cities of Parácuaro and Uruapan and was designed with the goal of bringing films from Mexico and around the world to an area where film has been virtually absent from the these regions.

Carrillo’s vision for the Festival de Cine Internacional de Michoacan is for it to be a film festival “By the people and for the people”.  Under her direction she has engaged the community to not only help carry out a successful run of the festival, but to offer input on how to add their cultural tastes to make the festival a unique experience and one they have a stake in.  This year’s festival has the theme El Cartel Mexicano (The Mexican Film poster) and will be held from August 4, 2016 to August 9th. The city of Lazaro Cardenas has been added this year to the run of the festival in addition to Uruapan and Paracuaro.

“We all have a story to tell — and every community has theirs,” said Carrillo.  “Let’s continue looking into our stories and show them to the world at the Festival de Cine Internacional Michoacan!”

Last year’s festival included over 20 film, workshops and fiestas de otorgo de premios (awards galas), and a Quincenera competition, all with a touch of Michoacan folklore.  This year’s Edition will build on the groundwork which has been layed and which work perfectly.

The film festival is putting out a call for entries for (English or Spanish) Features, Shorts and Documentaries.  All filmmakers are encouraged to
