Last October, two undefeated junior welterweights produced fireworks for seven heart-pumping rounds that had the boxing community riveted and clamoring for more. Now, Brandon Rios (31-0-1, 23 KOs) of Oxnard, Cal., and Denver’s Mike Alvarado (33-1, 23 KOs) resume their epic rivalry in Act II of this all-action slugfest. Rios, 26, registered a seventh-round TKO win in the first meeting, which made everybody’s list of top fights for 2012. Alvarado, 32, will try to turn the tables on his fast-rising foe in this 12-round contest.
The opening bout is another junior welterweight battle, as Khabib Allakhverdiev (18-0, 8 KOs) of Derbent, Russia, meets Breidis Prescott (26-4, 20 KOs) of Miami, Fla., in a 12-round showdown. Southpaw Allakhverdiev, 30, brings fast hands and deceptive power into this bout with the more experienced Prescott, 29, who’s previously battled Miguel Vazquez, Amir Khan and Mike Alvarado.
