Los Angeles, CA- Mexican singing sensation Luis Miguel (legally known as Luis Miguel Gallego Basteri) turned himself in today and was summarily arrested after U.S. District Judge Virginia Phillips in Los Angeles issued a warrant for the Mexican singer’s arrest on April 17th for failing to appear in federal court for the third time. The arrest stems from allegations that he has reneged on paying his former manger, William Brockhaus over $1 million dollars he was ordered to pay on July 2016 by a federal judge in New York. Miguel has since posted bond and has been released.
Luis Miguel’s former manager, Brockhaus, who originally sued Miguel in 2015, claims he is owed over $1 million dollars based on verbal agreement he had with the singer for representing him from 2013 through 2015. Back in July 2016 the NY court ruled in favor of Brockhaus and ordered Luis Miguel to begin making payment to his former manager, however Miguel has allegedly refused to pay.
According to court records, after Judge Virginia Phillips issued an arrest warrant and Miguel failed to show, she ordered the seizure of the singer’s Rolls Royce.
Luis Miguel is a Mexican singer and an icon in Latin America, often referred to as El Sol de México (The Sun of Mexico). He is one of the most successful artists in Latin American history, having successfully performed in a wide range of musical styles, including pop, ballads, boleros and mariachi.
