Toy Drive to Benefit Needy Families
On Monday, December 17, 2018 Avenida Productions, Latin Heat Media and LatinaFest join forces to celebrate the holidays, but more importantly collect toys to benefit the non-profit organization MEND.
This is the 3rd annual Christmas holiday celebration hosted by Avenida Productions and Latin Heat, whose aim is to bring together a mix of entertainment professionals including talent, executives and behind the scenes creatives for an evening of networking and merriment. This year the Latina entrepreneurs sector will also join in on the holiday cheer, as we look to link two of the most trending groups this year.
Milestones have been reach on both ends. In the entertainment world there have many breakthroughs this year. For one, more Latino/a leads in more complex roles and more talented producers running shows like Netflix’s Mayans M.C. (Norberto Barba, and One Day at A Time (Gloria Calderon-Kellet) and Starz’s Vida (Tanya Saracho).
As for the Latina entrepreneur, she is unstoppable. Latina-majority owned businesses totaled nearly 1.5 million, representing 87% growth over the past five years, far outpacing the 39% growth by Hispanic male-majority owned firms, and the 27% growth by total female majority-owned firms.
All gifts will be donated to MEND, a non-profit organization who will distribute them to the families they serve. MEND offers a range of comprehensive services delivered with dignity and respect by exceptionally dedicated staff and “army” of volunteers. For 47 years, MEND has opened its doors to the most vulnerable members of our community and over the years we have become one of the most comprehensive and empowering poverty relief agencies in Los Angeles County, serving, in 2017, over 14,600 individuals but providing an average of 30,000 client encounters each month.
Join us in helping bring holiday cheer to needy families and at the same network with friends or meet new ones. Enjoy fun, spirits, light fare and maybe Santa might even show up
