Anthony Ramos and Lady Gaga

Anthony Ramos plays Ally’s (Lady Gaga) best friend Ramon in the new Warner Brothers hit film A Star Is Born, which also stars Bradley Cooper and Sam Elliott.

Cooper, who also co-wrote and directed the film, and cast Ramos in the key role of Ramon, remarked in a recent interview at the Toronto Film Festival, “ I knew I wanted to cast someone who has an internal light that is just unswerving and that was him (Anthony). Ramon has this journey and he (Anthony) brought that, plus myriad other things to the role.”  Ramos and Gaga demonstrate likable screen chemistry.

It has also just been announced in Variety that Ramos has been cast in the upcoming film version of Lin Manuel Miranda’s Tony award-winning musical, In the Heights for Warner Brothers with Crazy Rich Asians which has Jon M. Chu directing from a screenplay by Quiara Alegria Hudes.

The young actor will essay the lead role of Usnavi de la Vega, a bodega store owner in New York’s upper Manhattan Washington Heights largely Dominican neighborhood. He previously worked with Miranda on the Broadway stage version of In the Heights as the character Sammy De la Vega.

Anthony Ramos in Hamilton

Ramos, a 26-year-old Brooklyn born Nuyorican, received critical attention for his dual role as John Lauren and Philip Hamilton in Lin Manuel Miranda’s Broadway smash hit play Hamilton. On television and cable, Ramos’ credits include Spike Lee’s She’s Gotta Have It, NBC’s Law and Order: Special Victim’s Unit and on Will and Grace.

Anthony is certainly a young star on the rise with his breakout film role as Ramon in A Star Is Born that is generating Best Supporting actor Oscar buzz. Ramos’ talents are simultaneously on display in the recently released dramatic film Monsters and Men in which he plays a key witness to a police shooting. Next March he will be seen as a Special Forces officer in the Sci-Fi film Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Anthony Ramos is on a great career trajectory and has worked hard, demonstrating his talent, perseverance and having fun. He is an artist that we can all be proud of and perhaps the Oscars will be a little bit brown this year.
