Looks like Randy Jackson is back in!
Pop singing sensation Enrique Iglesias was in the running to be the fourth judge on FOX’s American Idol joining Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban, but it is not to be.
That’s too bad because it would have been a good balance to have a Latino in the talent pool of judges. According to news sources, FOX is the one who pulled the plug on negotiations with Iglesias. Maybe the singer wanted one too many zeros in his salary.
It’s not clear what derailed the Iglesias plan, though money is always an issue with talent show judges.
Randy Jackson will have to take the seat at least for the time being.
The current plan, according to the news source, is to announce an Idol judges panel of Carey, Minaj, Urban and Jackson in time for the show’s on-site auditions, which start by the end of September.
Iglesias has sold over 100 million records worldwide (over 70 million albums), making him one of the best selling Spanish language artists of all time.
Iglesias has a history of turning down reality show offers, and it had been rumored he would sign on to Idol. He was previously offered a spot hosting X Factor, and was in talks with NBC for The Voice. With his full career in full throttle, Iglesias doesn’t need the Idol gig even if the show offers other career benefits. Iglesias just finished his latest world tour where he partnered with former Idol judge Jennifer Lopez.
American Idol returns to Fox in January. Maybe something will change and Iglesias magically appears. Stay tuned.
