All Roads Lead to Juarez

Road to Juarez will headline the second night of the 13th annual Beverly Hills film Festival at the TCL Chinese Theaters in Hollywood (formerly the Mann’s Chinese Theaters) on Thursday, May 9th 2013 at 7:45pm.

Road to Juarez, the new feature film by writer/director David Ponce de Leon, will have its world premiere at the Chinese Theatres in Hollywood, May 9th, 2013 headlining the second evening of the 13th Annual Beverly Hills Film Festival.

Sure to become a cult classic, the indie film recently inked a deal with MonteCristo International, who will act as Sales Agent for worldwide distribution rights. Cindy Nelson-Mullen, CEO for MonteCristo told Maxim via telephone interview “We are very excited to be working with this film.  It truly is one of a kind.”

Road to Juarez stars William Forsythe, Adal Ramones, Walter Perez, Charlie Koontz, Romina Peniche, Sal Lopez, Pete Pano and Joshua Ponce de Leon.  It was selected as the showcase film for the second evening of the 13th Annual Beverly Hills Film Festival.  The indie film was completed less than two months ago.  It was written and directed by David Ponce de Leon, best know for his acclaimed short films Single Black Female, The Cage and The Substitute For Love, which aired nationally on B.E.T.  Scott Rosenfelt (Home Alone, Mystic Pizza,  Smoke Signals) & Cesar R. Ramirez Produced.  Noel Tristan serves as Executive Producer. Rosalinda Morales and Pauline O’con, CSA (Under The Same Moon, Ladron  Que Roba A Ladron) handled casting.  Three time Emmy nominated Cinematographer, Jonathan West, ASC (Star Trek: The Next Generation, Charmed, CSI) served as Director of Photography .

Inspired by true events, William Forsythe (Boardwalk Empire) plays a cunning ex-con with ties to the Mexican underworld who ensnares best friends, Walter Perez (The Avengers) and Charlie Koontz (Rubber) into a daring heist to uncover a lost shipment of illegal taxidermy products in Mexico.  The trio embarks on a doomed expedition south of the war-torn border.  Mexican funny man and Superstar, Adal Ramones (Saving Private Perez) plays the vicious right hand henchman of a powerful Mexican underworld boss.

Road to Juarez marks the U.S. big screen debut of Mexican superstar, Ramones, who is perhaps best known for his long running Mexican TV show Otro Rollo.  Primarily known as a comedic actor, the dynamic Ramones plays a psychopathic villain with an unpredictable tongue in Road to Juarez.

Described as “a cross between Motorcycle Diaries and Blow (with a little Quentin Tarantino flair), the film spans a 50 year period, has more than 55 locations and took over three years to make.  It shot on location in Los Angeles and Mexico City. The film is a co-production between Marc Production Enterprises, 8th Street Films and Millennium Crop Entertainment.

Road to Juarez marks the feature film debut of Los Angeles native, David Ponce de Leon (AKA David de Leon).  A 15 year veteran of short films, EPK’s, commercials, PSA’s and music videos, Ponce de Leon recently sat down for an exclusive interview with Maxim…“We are very pleased to be premiering at the Beverly Hills Film Festival…They have been around for over a decade…seeing our film have its world premiere at the Chinese Theaters is a major blessing and a testament to all the countless hours put into the project by our talented and dedicated cast & crew.”  He went on to say, “This has been quite a ride…we are so humbled that people are responding to the film so positively and are hopeful we’ll get the opportunity to continue sharing it on the world stage.”
