Benjamin Bratt Replaces Al Pacino as Villain
What happens when you cast a super star like Al Pacino in film project? Many times, creative differences with the studio suits, production company and sometimes the directors. According to industry sources, it was creative differences with Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment caused Pacino to exit as the voice of the villain Eduardo in Despicable Me 2. Replacing him is the gorgeous and talented Benjamin Bratt — who should have been cast in the first place!
Bratt has jumped in full speed on a film that Universal is counting on as a super blockbuster summer release that premieres July 3rd. Despicable Me 2 is the fourth film from Illumination Entertainment and the sequel to its 2010 hit Despicable Me, one of Universal’s most profitable films ever, with north of $540 million worldwide on a $69 million budget. The sequel is directed by Chris Renaud and Pierre Coffin, and written by Cinco Paul & Ken Daurio, with Illumination founder Chris Meledandri and Janet Healy producing.
Bratt, who currently stars in Snitch in the role of Juan Carlos “El Topo” Pintera, is also the voice of Manny in the animated Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs2 currently in post production. He is also the gorgeous ex-hubs of Gloria (Sofia Vergara) on ABC’s hit sitcom Modern Family. and La Mission also has credits the include The Woodsman and Traffic. He is repped by WME, Circle of Confusion and attorney Robert Myman.
