Los Angeles, CA — Adria Arjona has been on the fast track since first hitting co-starring in the TV series True Detective (HBO/2015) and Persons of Interest (2014-15). From there she went on to plying the lead role in Emerald City — mastering her dramatic acting chops. Currently, she co-stars in the recently released comedy, Life of the Party, alongside funny lady Melissa McCarthy. In it, Arjona proves she is a thespian of great range and does not disappoint.
“It was just so exciting to be in a room with Melissa McCarthy,” Arjona said. “Melissa’s such a wonderful actress and woman, and she kind of just held my hand and took me along the ride. So I learned so much in Life of the Party and most of it was just me not laughing.”
In Life of the Party, Arjona also co-stars with Debby Ryan, Jillian Jacobs and Luke Bewared, and is directed by Ben Falcone, McCarthy’s husband.
Adria Arjona portrays Jules Reyes in “Pacific Rim Uprising”
Arjona has had a banner year in 2018, she also co-starred the action-packed Pacific Rim: Uprising, which released in March, portraying Jules Reyes– a role she described as “nerve-wracking and exciting all at once.” Arjuna prepared and trained hard for her role as an officer in the Pan Pacific Defense Corps.
“It was a really cool experience of exploration of a character because I actually got to feel what these pilots would eventually feel, which that kind of changed my perspective,” Arjona recently told The Hollywood Reporter.
In 2019, audiences will see Arjona sharing the screen with Charlie Hunnam, Ben Affleck and Garrett Hedlund in Triple Frontier. The film has undergone numerous casting changes over the past year, with Channing Tatum and Tom Hardy originally signed on. “To be completely honest with you, I think everything happens for a reason, and I think the cast is stronger and better than it could have ever been,” she said. “It just feels right.”
Arjona is the daughter of international superstar Guatemalan singer-songwriter, Ricardo Arjona, and Puerto Rican mother Leslie Torres. She basically grew up on her father’s tour bus and because she was extremely shy, she was put into dance and acting classes. She fell in love because as a shy girl, she could put on a virtual mask everything she portrayed someone else on stage. On stage, she is never shy. At 18, she moved to New York City to study at The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute.
Early on Arjona worked as a hostess and waitress at several New York eateries. Her talent has propelled her to come a long way in a relatively short time. She has a long career ahead of her in Hollywood.
