Los Angeles, CA — Award-winning actress Ana Ortiz (Devious Maids and Ugly Betty) received the Creative Vision Awards at the 35th annual Upton Sinclair Awards on April 20, 2017 at the Beverly Hilton. She was honored by the Liberty Hill Foundation for using her celebrity and philanthropy to influence social change and advance social justice. Celebrating 40 years, the Liberty Hill Foundation is L.A.’s premier social justice foundation, supporting L.A. organizations and grassroots leaders working for racial justice, environmental justice, LGBTQ justice and economic justice.

When it comes to raising a voice on politics, women’s empowerment, immigration, LGBTQ rights, and domestic abuse, Ortiz is using her celebrity platform to shine a light on social justice. As the daughter of the first Puerto-Rican city councilmember in Philadelphia, politics and activism are in Ortiz’s blood. During Ortiz’s acceptance speech, she gave an impassioned speech about LGBTQ rights and the impact the tv show, Ugly Betty, had on the gay community.
