Academy Award-winning actor Benicio Del Toro stars as Richard Matt one of two prisoners who escape from a Maximum security prison with the aid of a prison worker in Showtimes’s seven-part limited series, Escape at Dannemora, that also stars Patricia Arquette and Paul Dano.
Based on a contemporary 2015 true escape and manhunt that happened at a prison facility in Upstate New York, Del Toro is a prison Kingpin who together with another inmate Daniel Sweet (Dano) carry on an affair with Tilly (Arquette), a married prison worker who eventually aids in their escape. The drama unfolds against deep character exploration of the prison inmates convicted of murder, their survival in prison and desire to escape. It also centers on the life of Tilly and how she came to be seduced by these two men that led to her aiding their escape and the eventual manhunt.
Dannemora airs in seven-parts beginning on November 18th on Showtime. Del Toro‘s work in Dannemora completes a year where he also starred in the hit action thriller Sicario: Day Of The Soldado, a sequel to Sicario in which he originated the role of the mysterious operative Alejandro. Filming Dannemora, directed by Ben Stiller, took almost eight months of production.
Over his career Del Toro has played both real (Che, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas) and fictional characters (Big Top Pee Wee, Star Wars: The Last Jedi). The Puerto Rican born actor won an Academy Award as Best Supporting Actor for his role as the conflicted Mexican Police officer Javier Rodriquez in the critically acclaimed film Traffic (2000).
