A New Twist on Firefighters in Ligiah Villalobos’ Firelight


Premieres April 22nd on ABC 9PM (ET)

The new Hallmark Hall of Fame film Firelight will have its premiere screening on Sunday, April 22 (9:00-11:00PM ET) on ABC.  Darnell Martin (Hallmark Hall of Fame’s Lost Valentine and indie film I Like it Like That) directs from a script by Ligiah Villalobos  (Under the Same Moon).

A former network exec, Villalobos has really hit her stride as both a television and film writer.  In 2001 Villalobos  co-produced her first film, Dancing in September then transitioned in her writing career.  She been a staff writer on the NBC show, ED, the head writer on the #1 Nick Jr. series, Go, Diego! Go!

Dubbed “One of the 25 Most Powerful and Talented Hispanic Women in the Entertainment Industry” by the Hollywood, Villalobos’ writing is always compelling and strong and is one more reason to tune in and watch Firelight.

Academy Award winner Cuba Gooding Jr. (Jerry Maguire, Radio) stars as Dwayne Johnson (DJ), a counselor at a youth correctional facility. The film is centered on the young women who join an elite band of volunteers who battle forest fires, build hiking trails in remote areas and assist during natural disasters.  The incarcerated girls and young women come from troubled – often violent — backgrounds. Many of them belong to gangs and have been involved with illegal drugs – as users and/or dealers.

Co-starring in the telepic are DeWanda Wise, Yakina Horn and Q’Orianka Kilcher (Sons of Anarchy (TV), and the film The New World ). Brent Shields (Hallmark Hall of Fame’s A Smile as Big as the Moon), Alicia Keys (The Nanny Diaries, The Secret Life of Bees) and Mary Martin (Fair City) are executive producers of Firelight. David A. Rosemont (Hallmark Hall of Fame’s November Christmas) serves as producer.
