A Little Prayer For Aretha Franklin– Queen of Soul

By Elia Esparza

Those of us of a certain awesome era have many musical memories as we were lucky or blessed enough to have witnessed some of the greatest performing artists of all time. One such magnificent voice is that of Aretha Franklin. I write a personal note of thanks to this beautiful woman because she is reportedly gravely ill and resting in home hospice surrounded by her family in Detroit.

As she awaits her inevitable next journey, allow me to share her here at my Latinowood quarters housed in the great Latin Heat digital magazine!

Aretha, your legacy’s flame will forever be lit as it brings joy and inspiration to future generations as you did for us.

Latest news is that the 76 year-old ailing Queen of Soul is visited by Stevie Wonder, Jesse Jackson and ex-husband, Glynn Turman at home.

Aretha Louise Franklin is one of the most adored and iconic singer/songwriter, who hails from Detroit. At 18, she embarked on a singing career, recording for Columbia Records. It was only after signing with Atlantic Records in 1967, that she achieved commercial acclaim with “Respect,” “You Make Me Feel Like/A Natural Woman,” “Spanish Harlem,” and “Think.” By the end of the 1960’s, she had earned her title as Queen of Soul.

Franklin has won a total of 18 GRAMMY Awards and is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, having sold over 75 million records worldwide. She has been honored throughout her career including in a 1987 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, in which she became the first female performer to be inducted.  Rolling Stone magazine has listed her in the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time, and in the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time.

We’re pulling for you, Aretha, with the same R.E.S.P.E.C.T. and love you gave us!
