Several authors of the 8 Ways to Say I Love My Life! book and stage production will present a powerful Talking Circle workshop entitled “The Power of Telling Your Story “ at the annual convention of National Council of La Raza (NCLR), the largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the United States. The free workshop (although you must register to attend) will take place Saturday July 22nd, from 10:30am-12 noon at the Los Angeles Convention Center, West Hall Room 507.
Author Rita Mosqueda Marmolejo will facilitate the workshop which will start off with readings from co-authors Bel Hernandez Castillo, President/CEO of Latin Heat Media, “Latino Power” author Susan Orosco, and entrepreneur Joanna Ilizaliturri Diaz which will serve as a spring board for the talking circle with audience participation.
Workshop participants will gain tools, techniques, and tips on how to create and facilitate a safe, nonjudgmental, and supportive community talking circle in their communities and will discover the power of telling their stories which will help foster personal and professional development.
“The workshop is offered with the greatest respect and gratitude for sacred Native American ceremony, and in honor of my teachers and relatives,” Ms. Mosqueda Marmolejo said. She has participated in sacred ceremonies for 25 years and has facilitated Talking Circles with inmates at the California Institution for Women in Chino for five years.
Designed to help women believe in the power of self-love and inner strength, the 8 Ways to Say I Love My Life! book appeals to readers who seek a path to fulfillment. The book was a 2013 national book selection of the Las Comadres International Book Club and also first runner-up in the 2013 International Latino Book Awards in the Most Inspirational Nonfiction Book category. The hit 8 Ways to Say I Love My Life! theatrical production won an Imagen Award, which recognizes positive portrayals of Latinos in the media.
Acclaimed musician and philanthropist Vikki Carr wrote the foreword to the 8 Ways to Say I Love My Life! book, and Sylvia Mendoza (The Book of Latina Women) edited the book, which tells the inspirational real-life tales and powerful life lessons of eight women, including playwright/screenwriter/novelist Josefina Lopez (Hungry Woman in Paris, Real Women Have Curves), screenwriter and producer Nancy De Los Santos Reza, motivational speaker Margo De Leon, and communications specialist Laura De Anda
