LALIFF 5-day Festival Thur. Oct. 10th – Mon. Oct. 14th at the TCL Chinese Theaters
Los Angeles, California – The Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival (LALIFF) returns for its 16th edition of the festival which will take place from Thursday, October 10th through Monday, October 14th at the TCL Chinese 6 Theaters at Hollywood & Highland in Hollywood. The 5-day event will highlight the best films and showcase both the auteurs and amateurs from 14 different Latin filmmaking countries. See http://www.latinofilm.org for the detailed program.

The Closing Night Presentation (Monday, October 14th) of Gary Alazraki’s Nosotros Los Nobles will serve as the capstone for an impressive lineup that will feature 62 films, including 28 features, 11 documentaries and 23 shorts. In addition to the film screenings, the festival will host filmmaker panels on Saturday, October 12th and Sunday, October 13th. The Closing Night Gala will include an after-party presented by Cine Latino.
A diverse selection of award-winning films make up this year’s program. The featured titles include La Piscina by Carlos Machado; Tanta Agua by Ana Guevara and Leticia Jorge; La Paz by Santiago Loza, Kill the Dictator by Felix Limardo, and Carne de Perro by Fernando Guzzoni.
Directorial debuts like Water & Power by Richard Montoya, based off his acclaimed play by the same name; films focused on the American Latino experience such as Dreamer by Jesse Salmeron; Greencard Warrior by Miriam Kruishoop, Sleeping With the Fishes starring Gina Rodriguez and directed by Nicole Gomez Fisher, Detained in the Desert by Iliana Sosa, and Homebound by Fanny Veliz are also a part of the lineup. This year will also feature a retro screening of the 1988 critically acclaimed and award winning film Stand and Deliver starring Edward James Olmos and Lou Diamond Phillips.
Rodrigo Santoro in Meu Pais
Emerging cinema from Latin America and the Caribbean, Princesas Rojas by Laura Astorga and Meu Pais by Andre Ristum, featuring Rodrigo Santoro will be showcased as well. Powerful documentaries such as Narco Cultura by Shaul Schwarz and El Alcade by Emiliano Altuna are also on the list. Lastly, notable Cuban actor/director Jorge Perugurria’s tribute to Cuban cinema, Amor Cronico, will make its west coast premiere, and Xavi Puebla will debut his film, A Puerta Fria, starring renowned actor Nick Nolte.

The Filmmakers Café is a space created by LALIFF for filmmakers, entertainment industry professionals, VIP’s and sponsors to meet, greet, and enjoy refreshments, as well as to receive information on Festival events. Clips of Festival films, interviews with filmmakers, and footage from the Festival’s special events run daily on monitors located throughout the Café. Hours: 11:00 a.m. – Midnight
Hollywood Connect. A series of breakfast or luncheon meetings and panels created to build bridges between participating filmmakers and key professionals from the Hollywood film community. These include indie and studio executives responsible for development, financing, production, distribution and marketing.
